Today our pilot Thierry Colin (known as Titi the torpedo) talks about his three favourite paragliding spots.
NUMBER 3 : THE SALEVE
As for any pilot I think I’ll never forget the moment my feet left the ground. For me this was at the Saleve.
After climbing there my entire childhood, I also did my first paragliding and hang-gliding flights. It’s a magical place, close to the city where you can find limestone cliffs exposed to the west, offering various conditions.
There’s a beautiful view when you get around 200-300 meters higher, you can see Lake Geneva, Annecy and the Alps.
Some great pilots were made in this place like Didier Favre and Sébastien Bourquin. It was Xavier Raymond, Robert Graham, Olivier Naef and many other’s playground. It’s the perfect site to try out landing on the take-off, discovering lowland thermals and long transitions to the Parmelan.
And when the conditions don’t allow us to fly, there are over 350 climbing routes !
NUMBER 2 : THAILAND
I especially cherish this country for having lived there.
This place is a variety of colours, flavours and landscapes. PETCHABURI, 150km south of Bangkok, is one of the sites I prefer to take paragliding students. You can fly pretty much everywhere inside the country.
We were able to fly for miles with Xavier Murillo in Nakhon Ratchasima, on the seaside where it is easy to do soaring.
PETCHABURI is next to the Burmese border, embodied by a mountain chain that offers some interesting distance flight possibilities with its strong thermals in January. I once landed in a field of pineapples and was greeted by the farm women who had made me a fresh pineapple juice.
That’s the Thai welcome !
NUMBER 1 : ANNECY
It’s hard to describe this site.
You’ll find everything : the view, the conditions, the distance flight possibilities, the lake and friends ! It’s honestly hard to do better then that. It’s a beautiful paragliding site.
I’ve had some great sensations and emotions under my glider in this outstanding place. As is shown by the number of visitors, I think that’s the price to pay.
Whether it was to fly with my students when I was teaching SIV courses, to fly with my children or now with the wonderful K2 team, this really is a place I love.
If I’m lucky, you’ll see me fly here for a long time…
You’re dreaming of flying above Lake Annecy just like Thierry ?
